Solar System
Not Reporting?

Your panels are almost certainly still producing power — you've just lost monitoring visibility. This is the most common solar issue Illinois homeowners call us about, and it's almost always fixable in under 10 minutes without a technician.

Pick your inverter brand below for a free step-by-step guide. Works for Enphase IQ Gateway, SolarEdge inverters, and most Illinois residential systems installed after 2018.

Not sure which brand you have?

Enphase systems have individual microinverters on each panel. SolarEdge systems have one central inverter on a wall with small optimizers on each panel. Check the device on your wall — or just call us.

Common Questions

Solar Troubleshooting
FAQ

Why is my solar system not reporting? +

The most common cause is a lost internet or Wi-Fi connection between your monitoring gateway and router. Your panels are almost certainly still producing power — you've just lost visibility into the data. The fix depends on your inverter brand: Enphase systems use an IQ Gateway, SolarEdge systems use a central wall-mounted inverter.

My solar is not reporting but still working — is that normal? +

Yes, very common. The monitoring system and the power production system are completely separate. A reporting failure means the gateway lost its cloud connection — your panels continue producing electricity normally. Verify by checking your utility meter or any in-home energy monitor.

How do I know if I have Enphase or SolarEdge? +

Find the device mounted near your electrical panel. A small white or gray box labeled "Enphase IQ Gateway" or "Envoy" means Enphase. A larger inverter box labeled "SolarEdge" means SolarEdge. Enphase systems have individual microinverters under each roof panel. SolarEdge systems have small optimizer boxes on each panel but one central inverter on the wall.

When should I call a solar technician instead of fixing it myself? +

Call a professional if you see: a red LED indicating a ground fault or arc fault; a breaker that trips again after being reset once; a sudden production drop that doesn't improve after restarting equipment; or any physical damage to panels, wiring, or the inverter. SolarAbility can usually diagnose remotely before scheduling a visit — call (312) 312-5337.

Does SolarAbility service systems installed by other companies in Illinois? +

Yes. We service Enphase and SolarEdge systems across all of Illinois regardless of who installed them. We can often diagnose remotely through the Enphase Installer Portal or SolarEdge monitoring platform before scheduling a site visit, saving you time and money.
